Continuing our series of bi-weekly coffee chats with industry experts and makers. This is the 4th program in this series to offer an opportunity for members to come meet with others who are working in a similar industry, learn from, ask questions, and make some new connections! Coffee and light snacks provided, and the discussion is facilitated by our Development Manager to keep things flowing smoothly.
Maker Series: Circular Economy Integration learns from Hayden Gould. The Circular Economy is far-reaching and all-encompassing, touching on many industries, products and services affecting governments, NGOs and businesses alike. To help you navigate the topic and understand how your company can work towards being a positive contribution towards creating the circular economy I’ve focused the topic on these three subjects.
Circular Design
Business Systems
Industrial Symbiosis
Each of these is relevant to different areas and aspects of your business.
Circular Design will focus on the granular. Diving into a specific product or product line, and how you can design your products to be more circular in nature. These insights can lead to reduced waste, throughout the product's life, and help you identify ways to build concepts such as re-use, deconstruction, adaptability, and remanufacturing into your products.
Business Systems focuses on ownership. Whether that’s ownership of your products throughout their “useful life”, your supplies/inputs, your waste, or even your services and their impact on the community. We’ll dig into how you can reframe the way you view your business and who has ownership of the impact you create. The key lesson here is: There are no Externalities.
Industrial Symbiosis will take one step back from your products and business operations. We’ll start to view your business as part of a larger ecosystem of other businesses and how, by communicating, offering opportunities and being open about your challenges, we can build ties with others that support our common intentions.
