Come join us at SOARE Basecamp for another informative and casual workshop, this time focusing on Startup Financing. Beer, non-alc beer, and pizza provided with your ticket purchase!
Our workshop is hosted by James & Dave, two local forms from the tech startup world. They will cover corporate structure, co-founder agreements / arrangements, and norms that are due-diligence must haves. Equally important, the workshop will trend towards early and later stage startup financing; covering types of instruments, and how they might be adapted to suit the business models for those in the outdoor recreation technology sector.
In the session, you can expect to hear about:
Incorporation
Vesting
IP Assignments
Board Structures
Shares
Notes
Safes
Some good ole' practical advice for getting all the above started
This session is best for SOARE Members and general community who are looking for a good foundation in basic, startup organization and corporation finance. Not everything from the tech startup scene translates to businesses that have greater inventory and supply-chain demands, however, by attending the session, participants can develop their understanding of the available, proven contracts and tools, and better position themselves for picking and choosing the type of instruments that work for them!
Please RSVP via Showpass linked here!
About our Guests:
James is a North Van/Whistler-based lawyer that has dedicated his career to the service of Canadian tech startups, growing up with our venture industry since 1995. In that time, he assisted firms raise over $10B in venture capital, supported over $14B in exit transactions, and acted as the principal legal advisor from firm incorporation to Canada’s leading startups, including Wattpad, TopHat, Ada Support, Jobber and Shopify. Since July 2022 rededicated myself to early-stage venture work, and to supporting Canadian-based founders of high-growth enterprises, as well as specifically supporting adventurepreneurship in Canada’s resort and mountain communities. When not lawyering, he is goaltending or snowboarding – his only flaws, he does not climb or ride bikes (a very long and sordid history with heights and two-wheeled things).
Dave is a Squamish-based, seasoned founder, operator, angel investor and entrepreneur, and currently founder and CEO of Trnd, the leading social commerce platform that helps brands drive more sales for influencer campaigns. Dave has raised over US$20m from venture sources in his career, and has extensive experience in developing (personally and through great recruiting!) the growth, partnership and product development resources necessary for long-term value creation.
